Sweet Swap 2015 - The Invites!

It's almost time for our Sweet Swap! Katie and I love making a good invitation as most people close to us know. There is something about getting a real invitation in the mail that seems to be a rapidly vanishing art. Anyway - ta - da!

I can't tell you how much time we spend on these invites (well I could, but you wouldn't believe me). Outside of the design process, it's a beating. Between driving all over DFW to find oven mitts at dollar tree to hours of practically sitting on an ion to do the iron on, to cutting the tags - well let's just say it's a lot!

I was proud of myself though as I did a lot of the "weeding" (pulling all the extra vinyl pieces out before you do the iron on) myself, even though Katie usually takes care of that. It was a hot mess, but fun.

I was impressed with how well the iron on's transferred to the oven mitt!

Even though it's a lot of work, it's fun stuff! I especially love people's reactions to them.

Can't wait for the big sweet swap!

It's begginng to feel a lot like Christmas!

I know it's barely December (and by barely, I mean not, but whatevs, semantics). Target has an amaze balls Christmas shop, and yesterday was a big sale so I hit it up!

To start - I am totally jumping on the Elf on a Shelf bandwagon this year. We have a big entrance planned for the morning, should be fun! Buddy (yes, his name is Buddy. It was that or "suck face" if I had let the kids have final say on his name)

I love my dining room, it's probably my favorite room in my house. The red table makes it easy to decorate for holidays.

The centerpiece is incredibly easy, and didn't cost me much at all considering it all (with the exceptions of the wine corks) came from the dollar bin at Target.

Had to put my merry mail up, although I think I'm going to make something bigger. This didn't hold all the cards I received last year.

I picked these up for a friend yesterday and Frank was so excited when he saw them and thought they were ours. Target had a ton yesterday and I got one of the last few today that they had left! I didn't see the appeal at first, but it's growing on me!

I've been picking up black and gold decorations as I see them since that's our sweet swap theme this year. I really do love this though and was happy to put it up!

Can't forget the Christmas tree. In our old house it looked much bigger - I think I'll be hitting up the after Christmas clearance sales this year for a taller one. It is still pretty though :)

Here's to a fun and magical holiday season!

Pirate Invites!

So you saw the awesome pirate party that came together, I wanted to show off the invites Katie designed for us! I copied and pasted and put together the wording, but I loved how Katie made it look so fun!

The back was an *actual* map of the streets around my house, (back off creepers).

We are hard at work putting together our invites for the sweet swap next month (read: Katie makes cool stuff on the computer and I am her iron on sweatshop worker). Thanks to everyone who came out and had fun with us, hope you all enjoyed the invite!

A pirate's life for me....little kid's style!

For the first time in a long time, Halloween fell on a Saturday and so we decided to throw a "little something" together for the kids. (Did anyone else laugh when they read that?? As if we do a little anything). We toned it WAY down obviously, and I bought things from the dollar bin at Target to make them little goody bags and a couple friends brought food to share, so in total the whole thing was less then 25 bucks.

The weather was forcasted to be rainy so my plans for anything outside was shot, but in the end, the kids had a dance party and literally chased each other around in circles for two hours. But look! We got *almost* all the kids in for a picture!

We reused a lot of our Halloween decoration, just toned down and kid friendly.

Between Katie's cupcakes and my friends bringing food to share, we ended up with plenty!

My favorite part of Halloween is seeing all the kids in costume, and we had a lot of cute ones!

Hope everyone had a blessed, fun and candy filled Halloween!!

A pirate's life for me.....

YEAH! Halloween is HERE my friends! I started throwing a Halloween party last year and am now addicted. It's crazy how these things can suck you in! I actually decided last year, right after my last party, that I wanted to do a pirate theme. This was good because I picked a bunch of stuff up on clearance last year!

I really wanted an "entrance". For a pirate party - that means a boat. So my awesome better half was tasked with this "please make me a split in half boat" project. Initially we were going to make a boat out of plywood and split it, but after some conversation with out friendly local home depot guy, he ended using a sheet of insulation to make the boat for our "big entrance". My son Matty desperately wanted his picture taken so, win/win.

We had big plans, but the weather thwarted them. It was still a hit though.

We used a LOT of cheesecloth and torn fabric!

Lots and lots of skeletons and skeleton heads. I've started to name them respectively Fred and Morty. George was our fun party guest hanging out in the middle of the living room.

The food, drinks and signage were easy and fun. Katie made me the sign, I made these amazing fireball whiskey and orange jello shots and berry voldka and lime jello shots, and Katie made rum buttercream frosting coca cola cupcakes (say that ten times fast! - recipe coming soon!)

The hallway from the entrance into the living room has a butlers pantry and I wasn't sure how I was going to do that, but, some spider webs, a fake hanging lantern and some weird hanging skeletons I picked up for 99 cents from party city and voila! Hallway!

Katie and I had a ball - Betty the cat was unimpressed though :)

We are working on a little shin dig for the little kids and invites for sweet swap 2015 are already in the works. Hope everyone has an awesome and SAFE Halloween!!

Blue Apron

I love a lot of things, spending hours hunting down recipes and scouring the store to make sure I have every last ingredient doesn't even make the top one hundred on the "Things Daffney likes" list. My friend at Brooklyn Limstone introduced me to "Blue Apron". They literally send you a box with the ingredients for two complete meals and a recipe. I would never try any of the stuff they've sent, but so far so good. Thought I'd share this awesome concept.

The food comes in an ice packed box. It smelled so good the car was trying to get a pre dinner sample!

When I say they pack everything, I mean everything! This weeks second recipe was spaghetti Bolognese with a red sauce mixed with carrots and brussel sprouts. I would NEVER think to mix these things together - but luckily I don't have to, the people at blue apron did for me.

I have no idea what happened to the recipe card that came with it, luckily you can pull it up off your account. You can also go in and change the recipe if you don't like what they are shipping you, skip a delivery and get a peek at what's coming up to you door over the next few weeks.

It was so easy, my 14 year old took the lead and ended up making it primarily by himself! He'll make someone a good husband one day ;)

The end result was tasty, my husband had two helpings. While I would never have thought to put brussel sprouts or carrots in my spaghetti, it sure came out yummy!

You can head on over to www.blueapron.com and get two free meals for trying it out! Let me know what you think. (we are not being paid or endorsed by blue apron in any way shape or form, just sharing the goodness!) Although if you do check it out, let me know and I'll email you a link so we can both get free goodies.

Dining Room Progress

Not sure why, but I really wanted a red dining room, or at least one with lots of red accents. I haven't bit the bullet and painted yet, but I'm happy with how things are coming along!

I'm loving the rugs, the chairs and the side table. I picked the chairs up on Amazon HERE and the rug on rugs usa HERE.

The buffet was a labor of love by my mister :) I bought it off a garage sale group and Frank was able to get that look with one coat of chalk paint! I really love it.

I still have work to do - I'm not sure what to put on the table and I LOVE the light, but I've learned the difference between task lighting and room lighting and that my friends is a task light and not going to cut the mustard. So back to the drawing board.

Now I'm scrambling to get ready for our big pirate Halloween bash this weekend!
